Albion - Gladys Merle Seelye, 96, of Albion, died September 9, 2002, at Albion Manor Care Center.

She was born November 22, 1905 to Clare L. Colegrove and Ava May Sagendorf in Edmore, Michigan.

She married Ralph Vernon Seelye on July 7, 1934 in Grand Rapids. He died July 24, 1985.

Gladys lived in Albion most of her life moving from Belding. She graduated from High School in 1923 in Grand Rapids, then graduated from Western in 1925, received a BA from Western in 1930. In 1936 she moved to Albion to take over Wocholz & Pahl Mens Clothing Store along with her husband. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, member of Tuthill-Lutzke Circle, Entre Nous Club 50 year member, Hospital Service League, Albion Historical Society. She also taught Sunday School at the Methodist Church for many years along with teaching at Albion Public Schools and Wright School.

Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Gene (Judith) Wilds of Albion one son, Dan R. (Ruth) Seelye of Albion sister, Katheryn Gosciniak of Grand Rapids three granddaughters, Kent (Kim) Phillips of Albion, Ed (Stephanie) Haas of Albion and Manual (Elizabeth) Garay of Pawlet, Vermont and seven great grandchildren, Heidi Phillips, Joshua Phillips, Haley Haas, Logan Haas, Thomas Haas, Thomas Haas, Cody Garay, and Mary Garay.

She was preceded in death by her parents two sisters and one brother.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends from noon - 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Church.

Memorial service Saturday, September 14, 2002, at Wesley Chapel of First United Methodist Church, Albion at 1:00 p.m. with Dwayne Bagley officiating. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Albion, MI.
