PAXTON - Laurens C. Seelye, 81, of 15 Maple St. died Friday in The Medical Center of Central Massachusetts - Memorial, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Harriett (Douglas) Seelye; a son, Walter C. Seelye II of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Mary D. Meltzer of Sudbury; and four grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Dr. Walter C. and Anne (Barrows) Seelye, and lived here many years.

Mr. Seelye was manager of product engineering at Bay State Abrasives Division in Westboro for 25 years, retiring in 1975. He previously worked for 16 years in the research department at Norton Co. in Worcester. He graduated from Deerfield Academy and Middlebury College, Vermont, in 1935.

Mr. Seelye was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church in Worcester. He was past chairman of the Safety Committee of the Grinding Wheel Institute. He was a board director of Richards Memorial Library in Paxton for 25 years, and a board director of the former Holden Hospital. He was the first chairman of the Wachusett Regional School Committee in Holden. He was once a volunteer firefighter in the Paxton Fire Department.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in First Baptist Church, 111 Park Ave., Worcester. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bristol, Vt. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 111 Park Ave., Worcester, 01609. Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
