HOOPPOLE -- Melvin W. Seelye, 84, of 334 Main St. died at 10:18 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 1994, at Oakwood Health Care Center in Kewanee.

Born Aug. 8, 1910, in Manito, he married Vera Bennett on May 13, 1956, in Neponset. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Melvin Roy Seelye of Dover, Ark.; one stepson, Gene Nanninga of Kewanee; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Edwin (Kay) Gerber of Hooppole and Mrs. Harold (Betty) Miller of Wyanet; one grandson; 12 stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. One stepdaughter, Joan E. Wolf, preceded him in death.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a cannoneer in the European, African and Middle East theaters. He was awarded the silver battle star and was in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a farmhand in the Sheffield area and later worked for Kewanee Park System.

He was a member of Clark- Carrington American Legion Post 1031 in Mineral.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cavanagh & Schueneman Funeral Home in Kewanee. The Rev. Lauren Gerber will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery in Neponset, where military rites will be accorded by his American Legion.
