Mrs. Bert Seelye Dies in Hospital

MANNSVILLE – Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl S. Seelye, 71, wife of Burt D. Seelye, were held in St. Paul’s Episcopal church in Antwerp at 11 o’clock Monday morning. Rev. R.D. Gardam, rector of St. James’s Episcopal church in Theresa, officiated at the church and graveside in the Antwerp cemetery.

Although Mrs. Seelye had been in poor health for four years, the immediate cause of her death was a blood clot in the heart. As no doctors were available she was taken by Rescue 48 to the House of the Good Samaritan in Watertown where she died July 7, 1961 soon after arrival there.

Married in 1910

She was the former Miss Pearl S. Bentley, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Bentley of Antwerp. On October 5, 1910 she married Mr. Seelye in the Church of the Redeemer in Watertown. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Gilbert Shaw, rector. The couple lived in Antwerp two years and moved to Syracuse where Mr. Seelye was employed as a salesman by the United States Rubber Company. While living in Syracuse he was later an appliance salesman for the Syracuse Lighting Company.

They lived in Rome 11 years, Mr. Seelye being supervisor in charge of individual heating at the Griffis air force base. After his retirement in 1953 they moved to Pierrepont Manor and later to Mannsville where he has been on the maintenance force of the Mansville Manor central school.

Mrs. Seelye was a member of Zion Episcopal church, Pierrepont Manor and of Holly Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Rome. Her husband is the only survivor.
