Suzanne Marie Seelye, a lifelong and well-known resident of Canton, passed away Tuesday morning, December 1st, 2009, at Williamsport Hospital following a lifelong battle with diabetes. She was 50 years of age.

Suzie was born August 21st, 1959 in Sayre, PA, one of three children in the family of the late Herman A. and Elizabeth (Rumsey) Seelye. She graduated Canton Area High School with the Class of 1976 and continued her education at Mansfield University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, a Reading Specialist certificate and eventually a Master of Science degree in Education. After brief stints at the Troy, Wellsboro and Lock Haven school districts, Suzie settled in as a teacher at Canton Elementary School. An extremely dedicated educator, Suzie could be found nightly and on weekends in her classroom, preparing for the students she adored. In addition, she was actively involved with the Canton Area Education Association, serving two terms as President.

Suzie was a member of the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton, where she served many years as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. You could frequently find her at the Rialto Theater enjoying a film with her dear friends. She also enjoyed board games and was a collector of clowns and bears.

Suzie is survived by her brothers, Carl (and Ann) Seelye of York and Gary (and Mary) Seelye of Brownsville, PA; nieces, Jill (and Brett) Cowan and Bethany Seelye; nephews, Joel (and Amanda) Seelye, Craig (and Kara) Seelye, Joshua Seelye and Nathan Seelye; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
