W.D.L. Seelye Dies Here Friday

W.D.L. Seelye, 86, a resident of Texas 65 years and of Denton County 27 years, died at his home, 1019 Welch Street, at 1:30 a.m. Friday. Funeral services are to be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Central Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member, conducted by the pastor, Rev. L. P. Parker. Burial is to be in the Shiloh cemetery.

Seelye is survived by nine children, Mrs. Melissa Smith, John Seelye, Mrs. Etta Garrett and Alonzo Seelye, all of Denton; Mrs. Kathie Mack of Houston; Mrs. Minnie Shugart and George Seelye of Ennis; Arthur Seelye of Dallas and Clyde Seelye of Abilene; two brothers, Joe and Milton Seelye, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Schappaugh, all of Manito, Ill., where Seelye was born, Nov. 16, 1851. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was a retired farmer.

W.D.L. Seelye Funeral Services

Funeral services for W.D.L. Seelye, Denton pioneer who died early Friday, were held Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the Central Presbyterian Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. L.P. Parker. The choir with G.P. Elbert as soloist, sang hymns, and H.V. Shepard sang “Haven of Rest.” Flowers were in charge of granddaughters.

Burial was in the Shiloh cemetery, and pallbearers were George Seelye Jr., Charley Seelye, Robert Garrett, Leon Smith, Alonzo Seelye, Jr., and Lawrence Seelye, grandsons. A large number of friends and relatives were here from out of town.
