Thomas H. Seely


Pvt. Thomas H. Seely enlisted on April 19, 1861 in San Antonio, Texas. He was 18 years old at the time and his enlistment officer was Capt. James Walker. He enlisted for a period of 12 months. The Cavalry set a value of $ 110 on his horse and $ 20 on his equipment. The following note appears on his first record. " No. of miles to rendezvous 125." He evidently was originally in Company K and then transferred to Company D before July 1862.

July 21, 1861 Muster Roll - notes the following. May 12, dismounted - June 5 mounted. Horse strayed from camp in Lion Creek. Unable to find. Bought another horse on May 30.

July 1, 1862 Muster Roll shows that he reenlisted in San Antonio by Capt. George L Patrick for a period of 2 years or the war. He is now 19 years old.

June 20, 1863 - Muster Roll - Reenlisted by Capt. Walker at Halletsville.

August, 1863 - Prisoner of war since June 23 at LaFourche.

February 1864 - Present


The 2nd Texas Cavalry was also known as the 2nd Texas Mounted Rifles when the regiment was first organized in 1861. In 1862 the regiment was reorganized under the 2nd Texas Cavalry. These men lived in counties near San Antonio, Texas when they enlisted.
