Funeral Services for the Late Mark Seeley

On February 25, Mark Seeley passed to the great beyond. He quietly passed away without any pain, the cause being heart failure. He was a native of Ohio, born September 5 (or 3rd – difficulat to read), 1838. When a small boy he moved to Big Foot, McHenry county, Ill., where he grew in manhood. In the fall of ’61 he went to Fillmore county, Minn., where he lived for over 40 years.

He enlisted in Company F, First Minnesota Volunteer Cavalry on November 8, 1862, to serve his county and served to the end of the war.

On December 8, 1867, he was united in marriage to Georgianna L. Baker. The union was blessed with two children, a son, W.A. Seeley of Spring Valley, Minn., and Jennie M. Rix of Campbell, Cal. and four grandchildren, Mrs. A. C. Kleemeyer, Calvin Rix, Paul Rix, and Leona Seeley.

The old farm home was his place of residence for over 40 years. He was a resident of Spring Valley for seven years and in the fall of 1907 he moved to San Jose where he resided up to his death.

The loss of so generous and noble a citizen will be keenly felt by his family and many friends. He was an honest and noble character and was loved by all who came in contact with him.

The Rev. D. Lloyd officiated at the home and the many beautiful floral offerings were a token of the great love he held from all. He was a member of the Sheridan-Dix Post of San Jose and the beautiful and impressive service at the grave by the comrades of the Grand Army will long be remembered.

The following old friends were the pallbearers: C.W. Cutler, A.W. Caulkins, C.L. Burdick, A.B. Smith, I.A Talcott and John Shaffer.
