County Pioneer Florence Seely Dead at 96

A pioneer resident of Douglas County, Florence DeLacey Seely, 96, of 1108 SE Cass, Roseburg, died today at her home.

Mrs. Seely was born March 25, 1871, in Myrtle Creek. He father was John Hall, and her mother the former Susannah Weaver. She had lived in the Roseburg area since 1905 and spent her entire life in the Myrtle Creek and Roseburg areas. She attended Myrtle Creek schools.

Mrs. Seely was married June 7, 1905, at her parents’ home in Myrtle Creek, to Dr. Alvane Cary Seely. He preceded her in death in 1959.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Hall Seely of Roseburg; a sister, Mrs. Grace Lutz of Coos Bay; two grandsons, Hall Seely Jr. of Newport Beach, Calif., and John Cary Seely of Roseburg, and a great-granddaughter, Susan Seely of Newport Beach.

Funeral Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Long & Shukle Memorial Chapel, Father Alfred Tyson, rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church, officiating. Private interment will be in the Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
