George F. Seeley – Cora Rapalee

60TH WEDDING DATE MARKED

Dr. and Mrs. Seeley, Penn Yan Celebrate; local People Present

Dr. and Mrs. George F. Seeley of Penn Yan, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their home yesterday. They are the parents of Frank J. Seeley of this city.

Dr. and Mrs. Seeley are both in their 80th year and in good health.

Dr. Seeley’s ancestors were pioneers in this part of the country, his great grandfather, Abner Chase, being the first Methodist minister in Penn Yan. In 1800 he was appointed presiding elder and traveled as an itinerant preacher, his territory reaching from Black River, in the northern part of the state, to Williamsport, Pa. This distance he covered on horseback through narrow trails, and often was forced to hide from wolves in the woods.

Guests at dinner yesterday included Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Seeley of this city, Mrs. Frank Sisson of Penn Yan, a sister of Dr. Seeley, Mr. and Mrs. Harry R. Seeley, of Penn Yan, another son, Robert Seeley of Rochester, a grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart H. Stanton, of Rochester, and their four children, who are great grandchildren of Dr. and Mrs. Seeley.
