Elaine Elizabeth Seely Takes Vows With Kenneth Gibbons

HIGHLAND – Elaine Elizabeth Seely and Kenneth A. Gibbons pledged their wedding vows in a Saturday afternoon service at 2 o’clock in the wedding chapel of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Arrowhead Ave., San Bernardino. The Rev. J. Keith Hammond, rector of St. John’s officiated with the double ring service.

Because of recent illness in the families only relatives were bidden but it was a beautiful and impressive service according to the rites of the bride’s church.

The Altar Guild decorated the chapel with lovely summer flowers with candles burning on the altar.

The bride wore a navy sheer with large navy Milan hat and white accessories. Her costume was completed with a lovely corsage and she wore a wedgewood locket which belonged to her maternal great-grandmother. Standing with the wedding couple were the bride’s only sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Eitel. She was given in marriage by her uncle, M.C. York, who is 92 years “young”

After receiving the affectionate good wishes of the relatives who witnessed the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Gibbons left from the church for a motor honeymoon to San Diego and Coronado. From there they will make nearby trips as they choose with a possible drive to Ensenada, Mexico.

Saturday’s bride is one of Highland’s most loved daughters. She is a native of this community and has lived her entire life here. Elaine is the elder daughter of Mrs. Betty Seely and the late Edwin Seely and is a member of one of the oldest pioneer families of the San Bernardino Valley. She was graduated from the University of Redlands and is a past president of the San Bernardino City Teachers Club.

She has taught at the Elizabeth Bradley Elementary School in that city for the past seven years and she expects to return to her position there with the opening of school in September. Kenneth Gibbons is a native of Drexel, Mo., but has made his home in Highland since 1945 with his mother, Mrs. Edna Gibbons, who is recovering from a serious automobile accident. He is in business in San Bernardino, a member of the Gibbons Furniture Co.

He is a member of Damascus and Royal Arch Masons in that city. He served nearly four years in World War II with two years in Europe having been stationed in England, France and Germany. Upon the return from their honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Gibbons will be at home in Highland.
