Nuptials of Miss Miriam Seely and Earl Gorton Solemnized in Yucaipa

Lovely Wedding Ceremony Is Held in Methodist Church; After Month’s Motoring Trip Newly-weds Will Make Their Home in Denver

YUCAIPA, Oct. 7. – An affair that is of interest to nearly every family in the Valley is that of the marriage of one of Yucaipa’s best known and popular young women, Miss Miriam Seely, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Seely, who, on Wednesday at 11 o’clock at the Methodist church became the bride of Earl F. Gorton of Pasadena. Both young people are well known throughout this part of the country. Miss Seely having graduated from Redland High School, and both having served as Epworth League cabinet officers of the Pasadena district.

The artistic church decorations were in green and white, the flower girl and the ring bearer opening the gates into a fern-covered bower, under which the bride and groom stood. This work was lovingly done by the Epworth League, with Miss Eris Hoffpauir in charge. The women of the Home Missionary Society, of which Mrs. Seely is president, prepared and served the delicious luncheon for the reception.

Miss Gwladys Pugh of Redlands, accompanied by Mrs. C.M. Brown delightfully rendered, “At Dawning” and “Oh, Promise Me,” and Miss Eris Hoffpauir played Mendelssohn’s Wedding March. The bride was charming in a beaded gown of white Canton crepe and wearing a lovely veil. She carried a bouquet of white rosebuds and ferns. Little Adda Mary Seely frocked in pale green was the flower girl, and little Frederick Gorton, brother of the groom was ring bearer. Miss Edith Seely, sister to the bride, dressed in dainty white over pale green, and carrying an arm bouquet of white carnations and ferns made a very beautiful bridesmaid. The best man was J.H. Clarke of Glendale, also a member of the League district cabinet.

The beautiful wedding service was performed by Dr. W.L.Y. Davis, district superintendent, assisted by the local pastor, the Rev. Nelson Haffpauir. The bride was given in marriage by her father, H.M. Seely.

Following the ceremony there was a reception for the bridal party and the relatives at the home, at which a buffet luncheon was served to the guests. Many beautiful and costly gifts, presented by loving friends, were on display. The happy couple left for a month’s motor trip during which time they will visit the Grand Canyon and other points of interest, making as their destination, Denver, Colo., where they will make their home.

A most delightful pre-nuptial affair was given in Miss Seely’s honor recently, when the young women of the Sunday School class of which she was a member were hostesses at a miscellaneous shower.
